Welcome to the website of MALAYALEE ASSOCIATION OF TAMPA (MAT). MAT is one of the prominent Indian Associations operating in Tampa Bay area, Florida, USA. It is a non-profit, non-religious and non-political cultural and educational organization to maintain and promote the rich cultural and educational heritage of the Land of Kerala.
Kerala – Malayalees
We, Keralites come from the southernmost state of India, Kerala; also known as “God’s own country”. Kerala is one of the most beautiful places on earth and is one of the sought after tourist destination famous for its backwaters and regional festivals. Our native language is “Malayalam” and so we are called “Malayalees”.
Malayalee Association of Tampa (MAT) is primarily focused in serving as a forum of friendship and exchange of ideas and information for the Malayalees of Tampa bay. We conduct sponsor meetings and artistic events with distinguished visitors from India, and Kerala in particular, local prominent personalities and to celebrate festivities that are dear to the Malayalees.
MAT strives to maintain and promote the golden heritage of Kerala among Malayalees of Tampa and neighboring cities through our highly acclaimed
• Cultural events (Onam, Republic Day, Independence Day, X’mas/New Year)
• Stage shows featuring celebrities from Kerala
• Sports tournaments (“Vallam Kali” – traditional boat race in Kerala, Cricket, Soccer etc)
• Literacy and educational activities (Spelling Bee)
• A platform for kids, youth and adults to showcase their talents and traditions
• Volunteering activities
• Charity initiatives
These celebrations also encourage the younger generations of Tampa Malayalees to see, enjoy, appreciate, participate and learn the beauty of Malayalee culture and traditions. MAT plan and organize activities to reach out the needy in Tampa, in India and around the world.
We also cooperate and promote cultural exchange with other organizations, like FIA (Federation of Indian Associations), FOMAA (Federation of Malayalee Associations of Americas), FOKANA(Federation of Kerala Association in North America)
